Raised as a line regiment in 1689 by the 3rd Earl of Leven to defend Edinburgh against the Jacobite forces of James VII. This regiment managed to survive up to 2006 before becoming amalgamated with five other Scottish regiments to form the Royal Regiment of Scotland.
