This brooch would appear to relate to a Light Trench Mortar Battery of the 1st Division, 3rd Brigade 11th Battalion of the Australian Light Horse, who fought in the Gallipoli Campaign in 1915/16. Quinn’s Post was the most advanced ANZAC post in the operational sector and consequently became known as the single most dangerous place on the battlefield. It drew its name in memory of Captain Hugh Quinn, a respected Australian officer of the 15th Battalion killed in 1915.

Stamped 9ct on the reverse with makers initials FRS (Flavelle, Roberts & Sankey) Gifted by a son to his mother the message reads ‘To Mother from William’. This brooch is sold along with ts original presentation box.
