This regiment was originally raised in Bengal in 1858 before being transferred to the British Army in 1862. The 21st Lancers were amalgamated with the 17th Lancers in 1922 to form the 17th/21st Lancers. ‘Omdurman’ was the regiment’s only battle honour, and they adopted the rather unusual motto of “Thou Shalt Not Kill”
